Advances in Biological Informatics (ABI)

Program Theme: The Advances in Biological Informatics (ABI) program seeks to encourage new approaches to the analysis and dissemination of biological knowledge to advance- or transform- research in biology for the benefit of both the scientific community and the broader public. New algorithms or new approaches to factoring useful algorithms, databases, ontologies, applications and user interfaces, pipelines Web and Cloud services are examples of ways in which informatics resources have benefited the communities we serve.

Annual Deadline For Submission: Second Friday in September

Collections in Support of Biological Research (CSBR)

Program Theme: The CSBR program provides for enhancements that secure and improve existing biological collections, improve accessibility of digitized specimen-related data, and develop better methods for specimen curation and collection management.

Annual Deadline For Submission: Second Monday in August

Improvements in Facilities, Communications, and Equipment at Biological Field Stations and Marine Laboratories  (FSML)

Program Theme: FSML is a crosscutting program intended to provide infrastructure support for biological research and education by preserving access to study areas and organisms in terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems.

Annual Deadline for Submission: Second Friday in December

Managing Program Directors:

Dr. Peter McCartney

Instrument Development for Biological Research  (IDBR)

Program Theme: The IDBR program supports the development, production, and dissemination of novel instrumentation that addresses demonstrated needs in biological research.

Annual Deadline For Submission: Last Friday in July

Major Research Instrumentation (MRI)

Program Theme: The aim of the MRI program is to strengthen the U.S. scientific enterprise by providing our Nation’s institutions of higher education, research organizations, not-for-profit museums and scientific centers the opportunity to acquire shared state-of-the-art research instrumentation.

Annual Deadline For Submission: Second Wednesday in January

Advancing Digitization of Biodiversity Collections (ADBC)

Program Theme: The ADBC program seeks to enhance and expand the national resource of digital data documenting existing vouchered biological and paleontological collections and to advance scientific knowledge by improving access to digitized information (including images) residing in vouchered scientific collections across the United States. Since much of what we know about organisms is stored as dark data within collections, and because these records contain over 300+ years of scientific effort, it is critical to expose this data to the world at large through digitization.

Annual Deadline For Submission: Second Friday in October
